Building a Sustainer Program That Grows Itself: Advanced Strategies
Segmentation, upgrade timing, and the involuntary-churn fixes that quietly return more money than your next acquisition campaign
On Tuesday we made the case for monthly giving. Today we get into the machinery, because a sustainer program doesn’t grow itself on day one. It grows itself on day one hundred, after you’ve built the systems that will allow it to flourish.
Here’s the reframe I would offer any fundraiser sitting on a few hundred, or even tens, of monthly donors: you’re not running a monthly giving campaign. You’re running a donor portfolio.
Donor portfolios have segments, renewal cycles, and leakage. Manage those three things and the compounding takes care of itself.
